WALK IN THE WAY OF THE LORD

Sunday 10th June, 2018

Bible readings
Genesis 3:8-15
2 Corinthians 4:13-18
Mark 3:20-35

Hymn of meditation: PH 336
Word eternal, Great God,
You were hidden from us,
You remained so mute.
From the fall of Adam,
You have not departed,
The Word has remained.
This same Word is living Word,
In this Word there is great freedom,
We have life from this Word.

The theme, “Walk in the way of the Lord” implies that there are other ways apart from the Lord’s and this is the devil’s way which leads us into destruction. The way of the Lord leads us unto salvation. Most of the time, as humans, we try to hide our sins from the all-knowing and all-seeing God by pretending to be righteous outwardly just as Adam and Eve tried to do in our first reading.

Let us change from our sinful ways and walk in the way of the Lord, turn from darkness and come into His light. Our God is a loving father and will welcome us back into His arms when if only we will return. He has paved the way through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. Come to Him, walk in His way and obtain eternal life. All that the Lord expects from us is repentance and living in accordance with His Word; He is always ready to be with us. Let us look in the direction of the Lord, walk in His ways and salvation shall be ours. Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve we were cursed. Even then, God still loved us so much that He won us back unto Himself from the curses by sacrificing His only Son, to save us from destruction. God created us in His own image and has unconditional love for us.

2 Corinthians 4:13-18
It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

From the second reading, we realised how Paul’s confidence assured him that God will raise him just like He did with Jesus. What is the source of your boldness and how do you proclaim it to the rest of the world. Are you easily troubled and moved to shun the company of believers in the church for one reason or the other? The death of Jesus brought to us salvation and nothing more. The Lord is calling your attention to that fact today, so don’t be carried away by what others say to you or think of you. Did you join the church because of your friends or to worship the Lord? Do not look at others and what is going on in the world because, we, by God’s grace are under a strong umbrella protecting us from the sinful deeds and sinful ways, we are of the Lords’. Jesus is calling you today, come and walk in His ways, make a move and walk in the way of the Lord. “Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister”.

There is so much distraction in the world today, so much attractions and desires of the flesh that can easily cause us to stray away and walk in the way of the evil one. Do not heed to these distractions as they will only lead us to Hell. No other name can save us apart from the Lord Jesus Christ. Present your body as a holy, clean sacrifice without any filth. Do not justify your sins and evil desires for men to accept. Jesus is calling you unto righteousness and unto salvation today; walk in His way and obtain it. Live in the light of the Lord and abide in faith always, believing God in all you do and He will make your paths straight.

Closing song interlude
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still;
And with all who will trust and obey

Chorus
Trust and obey,
for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey

Verse 2
Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear,
Not a sigh not a tear,
can abide while we trust and obey

Amen!
