Hymn of meditation

PH 239:
Rise up all righteous people; Trim up your lamp, prepare.
The dusk has come already; And it is late at night.
Behold the Groom is coming; He comes to you, He’s near.
Watch now and pray all righteous; The midnight hour is near.

Anytime the Bible talks about the day of the Lord, it is referring to the second coming of Christ; the day God comes back to judge mankind, to reward those who know Him and punish the wicked. It is a day that God encourages His children to hold on to the faith and also forge ahead. The most important thing is to fully prepare, plan and plan very well for the day in all our celebration and endeavours. The teachings of the Apostles for over 2000 years have always been geared towards preparation for the kingdom; that one day Jesus Christ will descend into this world. Many have asked this question over and over that “if God is who He professes to be, if God is so loving and caring, would He bring judgement upon us? Yes. God is a God of love but He also represents judgement.

The time is unknown to all as Amos 5 tells us… “Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! To what end [is] it for you? The day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light.”

The day will be so severe that all the earth will be in total darkness but the good thing is that, anyone who loves the Lord and has placed his faith in the Lord Jesus will receive reward and not judgment; he will be saved from wrath. Romans 5:8 confirms this that whiles we were yet sinners, Christ died for us so that we can escape that judgment.

In Amos 4:13> At the coming of Jesus Christ, at the sound of the trumpet, the dead in Christ will rise first and those alive will all rise to meet with Him in the air, and at this point, God’s judgment on man begins on earth.

If two will be in bed together, one will be taken and the other left; two will be in the field together, one will be taken and the other left… This passage confirms many may be on the same ‘Christian job’ together yet, not everyone who professes to be Christian will inherit heaven.

The story of the 10 virgins

There will be those who will keep saying, it’s been long overdue since the message of His second coming was continually preached and such people will take the day for granted, but there will also be those who will be fully prepared to go with him; and the former will be taken by surprise at His appearance. He first came as a baby born in a manger, but His next coming will be to condemn the wicked one and reward His own who live for Him. “If you know on which day a thief will come into your house, you will prepare for the time but they always take us by surprise”.

Bible tells us when we see these developments of diseases, wars and pestilences happening around us, then it is an indication that the time is near. All these were prophesied by the Prophets of the Old Testament. How prepared are you for the coming of Christ? On His first arrival, Christ came as a baby born in a manger, He grew up to proclaim the purpose of His coming and until now, He keeps encouraging us to spread the gospel to all the corners of the world; but His second arrival will be to judge and destroy evil for good.

The day will be total darkness. The rapture will be the very beginning of the great tribulation. What will become of you if the driver or pilot of a vehicle you are traveling on happens to be raptured whilst on the way? Where will you also be at the time?

The devil will have his own way after the rapture has occurred; he will perform ‘wonders’ to sway the world into his court; but the Lord shall return to pick up His own after 3 years of tribulation. Study of the Bible is the surest way to be abreast with all we need to know to avoid the tribulation and turbulence of the times after the rapture.

Don’t be like the ‘foolish virgins’ who had no ‘extra oil’ for their lamps. Be prepared always for you know not when the master appears and the day will dawn on you. Do all you can to the glory of God whiles you have the life and strength before the day comes when you will be too old and weak to serve Him.

This is the period to go and preach to all and bring them into His everlasting life, to cause them to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. This is the core mandate of every Presbyterian and Christian alike especially in this year. Don’t wait, God demonstrated His love for us whilst we were still in sin. It’s time to go share the Good News to all the world.

Surely soon, hi yes surely soon,
Jesus is coming surely soon.
Maybe at midnight, maybe at noon;
Jesus is coming surely soon
