CHRIST THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Bible Readings

Acts 2:42-47
1 Peter 2:19-25
John 10:1-19

A Shepherd is the leader of the sheep. He leads and directs them to green pasture and drives away dangers from their way. One fact that stands out about every shepherd is LEADERSHIP. Every leader must know how to correct and direct, must have the sheep at heart unlike a hired labourer who is only there to make a living out of the work he does on the sheep.

The differences between the HIRED MAN and the GOOD SHEPHERD

The Hired Man has no heart for the sheep, he flees when there is danger, unfaithful to the master, he feeds himself and not ready to sacrifice for the sheep, neglects the sheep, and is without affection for the sheep.

The Good Shepherd feeds the hungry sheep, gathers the lost and brings them back to the fold, fights to rescue them from the fowler, equips them for service, covers their wounds, strengthens the weak ones.

Why Jesus calls Himself the GOOD SHEPHERD

(Psalm 23) The Lord is my Shepherd…

  1. Jesus takes care of the sheep, provides all their needs and leads them beside still waters.
  2. He gives them love and hope, revives their souls and gives them assurance of salvation.
  3. He leads the sheep to the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

As one of Jesus’ sheep, you must allow yourself to be led by Him. He leads the way for all to follow. Jesus understands your situation because He was once a lamb himself. He understands the need for sacrifice for the sake of the sheepfold; even to a shameful death on the cross.

He identifies with all the challenges you may be facing. He was once rejected by His family and even His disciples abandoned Him for fear of their own lives. He was judged wrongly so He knows you will be judged wrongly but put your faith in Him, trusting Him to deliver you from danger and provide for you. He promised the disciples to wait for Him till He sends them the Holy Spirit which He did. The sufferings and persecutions He faced was not easy, just as yours but as He rose from the dead in the long run, you will also rise victoriously if only you will rest on His promises. He will give you hope and a future. He knows the way, He is the Good Shepherd.

Do you recognize the master’s voice? Listen as He leads the way for you to follow. With Him all things are possible; He still reigns supreme and ready to do exceedingly abundantly to make you fruitful. Your leaves will never wither, He will remember you. His promises, ye and amen will come to pass. He is relying on you to bring the sheep that are out there into the sheep pen and allow Him to lead them. He knows the destination if you’re willing to come to him to direct your path.

Amen!
